The Vatican has joined the technological age!
They have their own channel on YouTube which broadcasts the Pope's speeches etc. They should load the Papal Audience onto this site on Wednesday and so you can hear Carmel announced to the Pope - he'll recognise us because we've been before.
You will find the channel here.
Anyway time for me to go to college, will try and get a chance to update the blog whilst we're in Rome.

You can now track our flights whilst they are in air!! Isn't technology wonderful?
Just go the Flight Tracker website and enter the flight no. - AZ201 for our flight to Rome and AZ206 for our return to the UK.
Its a fascinating site - giving you exact details of the current location, altitude and speed.

Its sooo difficult knowing what to pack.........for girls its things like how many pairs of shoes, co-ordinating outfits etc, for lads its simple - can I get away with the same pair of underpants all week? do I really need deodorant?

I've just checked the weather forecast for Rome on the BBC website - and............on Wednesday it will be 30 degrees!!!!

Its starting to warm up nicely.

Our hotel has been confirmed at the Hotel Lazio on the Via Vicenza, ideally located for the main train station (Termini)and Rome's Metro system. The hotel has 61 rooms so there will few other people to disturb our stay!

There will be an information evening on Tuesday 5th May at 6pm in the John Caden Hall.

We will give details of our itinerary and full information about the study trip. Can you bring the EHIC card for your son/daughter. If your son/daughter does not already have an EHIC card you can apply on-line at http://www.ehic.org.uk/.

Rome bans horse-drawn carriages

Animal rights activists have succeeded in obtaining a ban on horse-drawn carriages in Rome's historic centre following several traffic accidents.
The 44 horse-drawn carriages will be confined to parks during the week, under plans drawn up by the city, and allowed in the centre only at weekends.
They will be replaced on weekdays by electrically-powered vintage cars.
Last year, a horse had to be put down after being hit by a truck and breaking its leg on a street near the Colosseum. Miss Collins attended the horse's funeral.

Passport Details

All students were given a letter today explaining that we will be travelling on a group passport.

The Passport Agency require that all students have a parental consent form. Can you please ensure that this form along with a completed Indemnity form are returned to college by Friday 12th December.

Now that E111 form is no longer in use, students need to have an EHIC card. You can apply online at http://www.ehic.org.uk/

I will collect passport photos after the Christmas break.

Welcome and Benvenuti

Welcome e Benvenuti to the information pages (blog) for the RE study visit to Rome in May 2009.

I will use these pages to provide updates on the visit and interesting bits on Rome. The Italians call Rome - 'la bella citta' - 'the beautiful city', and it certainly is!! I've forgotten how many times I've been there but I still get excited whenever I go.

Lord Byron said 'O Rome! my country! city of the soul!' I would tend to agree.
This year we have almost 50 students who will be accompanied by 4 members of staff, more details on them later.
